A Dog’s Breakfast is a hilariously quirky dark comedy starring David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay of Stargate Atlantis), Kate Hewlett (Hewlett’s real life sister), and Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett also on Stargate Atlantis).
The story is about a disturbed brother Patrick and his sister Marilyn and oh, by the way let’s throw in Marilyn’s actor fiancĂ© Ryan whom Patrick feels is not the right man for his sister. There is also Patrick’s dog and best friend Mars, who keeps digging up surprises. Patrick feels that he must get rid of Ryan, one way or the other through a menagerie of mishaps.
I thought this was a great movie and really fell in love with it. Hewlett does a fantastic job in his portrayal of Patrick and the brother-sister banter was absolutely charming. Mars does an excellent job in his debut and McGillion is as charming as ever with his character Ryan.
All in all I would rate this movie 5 stars out of 5 possible. The slapstick dark British humor kept me laughing all the way through. A Dog’s Breakfast is not rated and has no harsh language but does have a little nudity. My 14 year old found is fantastically funny.
